Haulmark All Star Sprint Results Attica Raceway
Park - Sat. 8/30/03 By Scott Hall ATTICA, OH Greg Wilson held off furious charges by John Ivy and Jason Johnson Saturday night at Attica Raceway Park to win the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap feature. The Attica Ambush preliminary race was sponsored by Budweiser and it was Wilsons second victory of the season, both coming at Attica in Bob Hampshires Maxim Chassis with Hampshire power under the hood. Man, its nice to be at Attica, Wilson exclaimed from victory lane. Running around under caution I thought man you were good on the bottom, just keep being patient and go down there. I knew those guys were back there and figured I could block for two laps maybe we could get a win. For the start it was Jeff Shepard and Rob Chaney on the front row with Byron Reed and Wilson in row two ahead of Ivy and Chad Kemenah. Chaney shot into the initial lead over Wilson and Reed. Chaney ran the high groove and Wilson kept the pressure on in the low groove, pulling alongside Chaney following an early restart, but he could not make the pass stick. Then, following a lap nine restart, Wilson was really working good in the low groove and kept even with Chaney. Lap after lap Wilson kept the pressure on the leader, and finally got a good run on the bottom on lap 12 to snare the lead coming off turn four. Through the middle parts of the race, Wilson kept a three or four car length advantage over a great battle behind him among Chaney, Ivy, Shepard and Johnson. A lap 17 caution, the final slowdown of the race, saw the running order Wilson, Chaney, Johnson, Ivy and Shepard. Ivy and Johnson traded spots three times in the next five laps, with Johnson taking over second on lap 23. Johnson began running down Wilson and they were nose to tail with three laps to go. But Ivy had other ideas and stuck his nose into the battle, taking second on lap 28. Johnson tried the high groove with bold moves banging off the cushion the last two laps but was forced to settle for third behind Ivy. I was hoping He (Wilson) would stay up top, Ivy recalled after finishing second. I was better than him on the bottom. We made him race for it and didnt hand it to him. The boys had her dialed in tonight for me. It was fun, I had a ball. I was racing the racetrack, I wasnt racing the racecars, Johnson said after finishing third. And I was going by everybody. The top line was working for me and I saw the five to go sign and I had a brain fade and got to racing the cars instead of the track and I got off my line. But we tried our best. Chaney was fourth with Shepard fifth ahead of Chad Blonde, Kenny Jacobs, Mike Linder, Stevie Smith and Kraig Kinser. The Crown Battery heat fell to Jeff Shepard, the B&B Products heat went to Jason Johnson, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Stevie Smith and the TP Wings heat fell to Kyle Sauder. Keith Baxter won the Outerwears Pre-filters C Main and Chad Blonde won the United Aluminum Window Sales & Consulting B Main. Kemenah was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier. Bill Rose flipped in his heat race, forcing him to scratch for the rest of the program. In limited late model action it was Larry Kingseed the victor over Jeff McCoy. Huggins Cams Time Trials: 1.
