Stewart Slides to Victory in the 4th Annual Capitani Classic! “I knew he
was coming so I actually hesitated a little bit there with the two guys in
front of me. I wasn’t sure where to go and I know he’s been exceptionally
good here on the bottom,” explained Stewart when asked about the setup for
the pass. “Lately, our car has been really good the last part of the race,
and that’s what we’ve been trying to concentrate on because the No. 15
beats us on a daily basis, his lap times always increase as the race goes
on, or at least quicker at the end of the race so we’ve been trying to
concentrate on that and so far we’ve been able to achieve that a little
bit. It’s just a testament to everyone on this L.M.R.
Team.” With a sigh
of relief, Stewart said, “I can’t thank my guys enough. They gave me a
really good Hot Rod. We’ve been absolutely terrible here this year so to
get a win here going into our Wednesday qualifying night definitely gives
this team a boost, and hopefully good things will come for Wednesday and
on into Saturday.” Giving
chase early on from sixth, the race of the lead was between Kerry Madsen
and Danny Lasoski with the No. 29 on top.
Keeping just over a second advantage for the first eight laps, slower
traffic began to come into play with Lasoski
closing the gap. Working the
center groove through the first two turns, the Big Game Motorsports No. 2
was all over Madsen’s back bumper in a matter of laps. Switching grooves
to the usual Lasoski Catfish, the challenge for
the lead came on Lap 14 with “The Dude” going to the point off the second
turn. Pulling
away by 0.627 seconds before Madsen was able to make back to the line,
Lasoski looked to be in control; but traffic was
not done writing their story. Pulling to
a pair of lapped cars, Madsen with Shane Stewart in tow since Lap 4 closed
fast. With a huge head of steam, Stewart pulled the slide on Madsen for
second; trying the same move on Lasoski the
following lap without the desired result.
Back into
Lasoski’s tire tracks, the slide came again on
Lap 21 with the Larson Marks Racing No. 2 clearing Danny entering turn
four and quickly pulling away to 1.440 second by the next lap. Finding
slower cars in the final two revolutions, it made no difference as Stewart
crossed 1.594 seconds ahead of Lasoski.
Kerry
Madsen ended his night third with Sammy Swindell
pulling off the low line pass on Paul McMahan for fourth on the final lap,
who nearly ended his night coming to the checkered with a slap to the
front straight-a-way wall. Joey
Saldana was sixth with Daryn Pittman close
behind in seventh. Jamie Veal from 14th was eighth with Lynton
Jeffrey and Justin Henderson making up the top-ten.
With 80
drivers making the call for the fourth edition of the Capitani Classic, split qualifying saw Kerry Madsen
fastest in Group A at 15.050 seconds. Group B was topped by Daryn Pittman with a 15.290 seconds lap.
Six Heats,
divided into three for each qualifying group took place. Group A Heats were won by Danny Dietrich, Ian Madsen, and
Davey Heskin. Group B Heats went to Brian Brown,
Jamie Veal, and Parker Price-Miller. With the
top-three advancing from each Heat, the top four fastest drivers from both
qualifying groups who advanced were locked into a seven round, 2 Lap Pole
Shuffle with the winner advancing up the ladder. The first round saw Paul
McMahan over Lynton Jeffrey. Facing Joey Saldana in the second round, the
No. 71m went three straight over McMahan, Stewart, and Swindell before going down in the sixth round to Danny
Lasoski who was not able to keep pace with Kerry
Madsen taking home an extra $3,000 courtesy of Greenland Homes, and in
doing so set a new 2 Lap record at 32.1 seconds.
“I couldn’t
be more proud of Greenland Homes, Kustom
Concrete Pumping and Nehring Construction,” said
Madsen. “It’s fantastic to
see new people in the sport.
I got lucky and got the inside starting spot on the ‘Dude’. It could have gone either
way. We’ll take
it!” A 10 Lap
C-Feature was topped by Brandon Wimmer. Going
back to A and B groups for the night’s B-Features, Greg Hodnett won the consolation feature for the A Group.
Daryn Pittman topped the Group B consolation.

Knoxville, IA,
August 9, 2015 – If
the Slide Job was an Olympic sport, Shane Stewart would have collected the
gold medal on Sunday night at the Knoxville Raceway; pulling off a deep
Slide Job on Danny Lasoski though turns three
and four on Lap 20 to become the fourth winner in as many years in the
fourth annual Kustom Concrete Pumping Capitani Classic.
