Wilson (5) 2. Moore (1) 3. Dodge (2) 4. Gharst (4) / 5. Paulus (10) 6. Swindell (7) 7. Meyer (6) 8. Garner (8) / 9. Hodnett (9) 10. Reinke (3) Moore led early in the 8 lapper. With a tacky and somewhat narrow surface, passing was at a premium. Moore took the early advantage with Dodge in tow. Reinke came to a stop on lap two. The restart saw Moore leading Dodge, Wilson, Gharst and Swindell back to green flag racing. Wilson did well to pick his way forward in his maiden Nationals appearance, taking the lead on lap nine. Paulus won a battle with Swindell, but fell on spot short of an A main transfer. Hodnett couldn't move forward and was sent to the C as a result of his ninth place finish. 100 points were awarded to the heat winner, 97 to 2nd, 94 to 3rd and so on. Heat two (started): 1. Anderson led Cranston, Henderson, Huntley and Mitrisin back to green flag racing. Henderson took command on lap seven, while Hannagan made a steady run into a transfer spot. Hannagan suffered rear end problems at the checkers, but made a replacement before the main event. Heat five (started): 1. Rahmer (8) 2. Wimmer (3) 3. Crockett (2) 4. Johnson (7) / 5. Rilat (10) 6. Antill (5) 7. I. Madsen (1) 8. Giannetto (9) / 9. Bennett (4) 10. Lambertz (6) Wimmer took the early lead, while Rahmer passed four cars on the first lap. Crockett (16) Kaeding shot out to a good lead from his pole position. Smoke was evident from his engine when Crockett stopped while running ninth on lap seven. Johnson and Shaffer were in a battle for third. The resart saw Kaeding leading Rahmer, Johnson, Shaffer and Kinser. Johnson, Shaffer and Kinser exchanged positions several times in the next few laps before Shaffer assumed third. On lap 14, Kaeding's motor expired and he pulled pitside. Rahmer assumed the lead with Kinser having moved into second. On lap twenty, Rahmer slowed behind the smoking machine of Stutts, allowing Kinser to shoot around him and pull away. Two laps later, Kinser had a right rear go down on the backstretch, sending him over the turn three cushion, into the wall, and upside down. Rahmer assumed the lead ahead of Kemenah, Dewease, Johnson and Schatz. Shaffer pitted with a flat, surrendering his runner-up run. Rahmer surged to the win, collecting 12K and his first career Knoxville triumph. Kemenah made a run on the final lap, but his low line was blocked by the winner. Chad settled for 10K. Schatz, Paulus and Smith used charges from the back of the pack to share hard-charger honors. Wednesday points: 1. Paulus 476 2. Rahmer 472 3. Schatz 470 4. Hannagan 470 5. Kemenah 468 6. Knoxville Nationals Night #2 Drier track conditions greeted drivers on their second attempt at a qualifying night. A low pill draw was of the greatest importance tonight. Haudenschild and Dollansky moved up quickly, but couldn't gain on the top four transfer spots. Heat two (started): 1. Moyle (2) 2. J. Johnson (6) 3. Mock (1) 4. Stewart (8) / 5. Saldana (10) 6. Wolfe (3) 7. Meyers (9) 8. Hockett (5) / 9. Neitzel (4) 10. Swindell (7) Moyle led throughout. There was a stoppage on lap eight of ten for a spun Swindell. This gave Stewart a chance to pounce from his sixth place running position. Mock and Wolfe had been battling all race for third. While the two battled, Stewart passed both Saldana and Wolfe on the low side to grab the final transfer. Heat three (started): 1. D. Jacobs (5) 2. Lasoski (9) 3. K. Kinser (10) 4. Madsen (8) / 5. J. Allard (4) 6. McDonald (1) 7. Feese (7) 8. Stenhouse (6) / Langerud (3) 10. Zaputil (2) D. Jacobs shot to the low side and passed four cars en route to a convincing win. Lasoski and K. Kinser had great runs. K. Kinser really surged after a lap four yellow for Feese. The restart at the time was D. Jacobs leading McDonald, Lasoski, Madsen, Langerud and K. Kinser. K. Kinser roared to third after the green replaced the yellow. Madsen held on to the final transfer over J. Allard, whose slow start cost him despite a late charge. Heat four (started): 1. Droud (4) 2. Herrera (2) 3. Pittman (5) 4. Campbell (10) / 5. McCarl (8) 6. Solwold (9) 7. Coniam (7) 8. Young (6) / 9. Pillon (3) 10. Jones (1) Jones needed a second push and joined the heat at the rear to start. Droud led flag to flag, despite a lap two caution for a stopped McCarl. McCarl would climb back up the ladder slide in front of Campbell for the final transfer on the last lap in turns one and two. Campbell was not intimidated, and used a slider of his own to take the spot back coming back to the checkers, and securing a great run. Heat five (started): 1. Ball (2) 2. Logan (4) 3. Tatnell (9) 4. Alley (10) / 5. Lynch (7) 6. D. Smith (5) 7. Sather (3) 8. Bartz (1) / 9. Brown (8) 10. Phillips (6) Phillips stopped on lap one and exited, unable to start. Ball led the distance. Fate saw D. Smith slow while running fourth on lap six and exit. Brown lost a motor on lap seven when he retired after climbing to third. The attrition meant Alley would grab the final transfer and continue a great night. C main (started): 1. Swindell (2) 2. Neitzel (4) / 3. Agan (1) 4. Langerud (6) 5. Brahmer (8) 6. Zaputil (3) 7. Allard spin and a lap seven flip for Bartz. When McCarl showed his nose to Meyers for the final transfer with two to go, Meyers tried to block McCarl low in turns one and two on the final go-around. The result was a loss of momentum for Meyers, and McCarl gained the final transfer in a drag race for the checkered flag. A charge by Sammy fell short. A main (started): 1. Stewart (3) 2. Ball (18) Madsen shot out on the cushion to lead early. His lead was a good one until a lap four slowdown for a stopped Higday. Madsen led Stewart, Tatnell, Lasoski and Alley. Stewart dove low in turn one on the restart, assuming the lead for good in the 25 lapper, collecting $12,000. The lead was growing when J. Johnson blew his motor. The restart saw Stewart leading Tatnell, Lasoski, Madsen and Alley. McCarl earned hard-charger honors for moving up 17 spots from his origination. Clean-O World Challenge (started): 1. Pittman (9) 2. Kaeding took over on lap six, and looked to have it signed, sealed and delivered. On lap twelve, Stewart and another car contacted sending him into the inside guardrail. Geldart flipped at the same time in turn four. No one was injured. Kaeding led Antill, Pittman, Rialt and Madsen back to green flag racing. Kaeding immediately lost a left rear and pulled it pitside to watch the rest of the race. This handed the lead to Pittman who held on for a cool $10,000. Schatz found some rubber on the track late to run down Pittman, but he couldn't find a way. Alley bowed out with motor problems on lap 11. Schatz and Tatnell shared hard-charger honors. |

Randy Anderson 81 (2) DNS Colin Northway 60 Real Estate inside of turn one was pretty expensive as a one-lane rubber down track saw the pole-sitter win all of the non-qualifier events. That same piece of estate was valued by both Hockett and Ra. Anderson, with the latter flipping after contact. He was done for the day. Hockett moved up to the front row and followed Swindell in a mostly single-file, 8 lap affair. Heat two (started): 1. Jaymie Moyle 5m (1) 2. Dusty Zomer 1z (4) 3. Danny Jennings 61J (3) 4. Jonathan Allard 0 (5) / 5. John Lambertz 12L (6) 6. Kevin Huntley 70x (7) 7. Jamie Zaputil 1zz (8) 8. Matt Wasmund 4w (9) 9. Robert Bell 71x (10) 10. Tim St. Arnold 7w (2) St. Arnold got off to a bad start, spinning his tires on the high side. He would come to a stop on lap three, bringing a caution. The running order would stay the same for the duration. Heat three (started): 1. Blake Feese 55x (1) 2. Mike Erdley 11E (2) 3. Roger Crockett 11c (3) 4. Ryan Anderson 71R (5) / 5. Danny Smith 4D (4) 6. Mike Deavers 72 (9) 7. Ian Madsen F5 (7) 8. Matt Moro 47 (6) 9. Greg Jones 35 (8) Feese led the distance. Ry. Anderson snuck inside D. Smith for the fourth spot in the first turn and never made a mistake for the final transfer. Heat four (started): 1. Paul McMahan 11H (1) 2. Calvin Landis 70 (5) 3. Josh Higday 24H (2) 4. Chad Meyer 1w (4) / 5. Mark Dobmeier 13D (6) 6. Dave Enders 51E (9) 7. Rager Phillips 9 (8) 8. Ty Bartz 75 (7) 9. Kim Mock 1m (3) McMahan led flag to flag in a mostly single-file affair. Landis benefited from a lap one flip by Mock, who made contact with another car and hit the backstretch fence. He was uninjured. Bartz dropped out on lap two, and Phillips did the same on lap nine. Heat five (started): 1. Mike Moore 69 (1) 2. TJ Stutts 2K (2) 3. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 40R (3) 4. Jeff Mitrisin 5J (5) / 5. Brent Antill 1B (4) 6. Bob Bennett 3B (7) 7. Lynton Jeffrey 4AU (8) 8. Kertscher led early. Bell spun, slowing the action on lap two. Kertscher led D. Smith, Dobmeier, Brahmer and Antill back to the green flag. With one more lap in the books, Dobmeier took over second, before Deavers spun on the frontstretch. Zaputil could not avoid him and hit him head on, sending him over on his side. Joining the pair to the sidelines was Walden, who was collected. Also involved, but able to continue were McDonald and Bell. Dobmeier was able to work around Kertscher in traffic on lap eight, but would get caught up in a mess in turn two. Five cars were involved and had to retire including Belll, Wasmund and I. Madsen. Kertscher assumed the lead and collected the first of four transfers to the A main. A main (started): 1. S. Swindell (1) 2. McMahan (4) 3. Moyle (2) 4. Feese (3) 5. Landis (9) 6. Mitrisin (20) 7. There were two stoppages in the event. Agan spun on lap four. At the time, Swindells lead was over McMahan, Moyle, Feese and Hockett. Hockett would blow his right rear tire on lap 17, losing a top five run. Moyle would get by McMahan briefly when Paul tried to move around Swindell. McMahan recovered a lap later to claim second. Mitrisin had his machine on the move, moving forward from his tenth row starting spot to earn hard-charger honors. |

Meyer was running a strong second, when he came to a rest with something broken in the right rear of the machine on lap six. The restart saw D. Smith leading Kertscher, Ry. Anderson, Zomer and Cranston. Cranston would gain fourth, but exit on lap eight with a smoking motor. Zomer blew a right rear on lap eight, ending his run. On lap 11, Enders spun on the frontstretch. D. Smith still led Kertscher and Ry. Anderson, but now Higday and Hockett were battling for fourth. Hockett won the battle in a green, white, checker finish, but it wasn't enough for the transfer. Swindell and Feese moved up well, but needed a caution that never came. B main (started): 1. Jason Solwold R19 (1) 2. Daryn Pittman 21 (3) 3. Tim Shaffer 6 (2) 4. Jac Haudenschild 83JR (15) / 5. Don Droud Jr. 17G (18) 22. Garner (21) Solwold took the early lead in a caution plagued 22 lapper. Logan brought out the first caution when mud pinned his left foot against the frame rail of his machine. He would return after clearing it. Solwold led Shaffer, Pittman, D. Jacobs and Henderson back to teh green flag. Pittman slid by Shaffer before J. Johnson stopped with a flat left rear a lap later. He would restart at the tail. A charging Rilat had surged up to fifth and took fourth before Hodnett stopped on the backstretch a lap later. Now Solwold's lead was over Pittman, Shaffer, Rilat and Henderson. Kaeding was now on the move along with K. Jacobs. The two moved into fifth and sixth before Kaeding took the final transfer position from Rilat on lap 18. Lynch blew his powerplant on the white flag lap, setting up a green, white, checker finish. Solwold's lead to the green was over Pittman, Shaffer, Kaeding, Rilat, K. Jacobs and a surging Haudenschild. Haudenschild made quick work of K. Jacobs and Rilat and set his sights on his teammate, Kaeding. Going into turn one on the final lap, he went for broke and executed a successful slidejob, gaining the final transfer spot. Kaeding settled for $5000 as the first alternate. Gharst was rookie of the Nationals. A main (started): 1. Kraig Kinser 11K (1) 2. Donny Schatz 15 (3) 3. Danny Lasoski 20 (6) 4. Shane Stewart 26 (5) 5. Chad Kemenah 15K (4) 6. Kerry Madsen 55 (15) 7. Stevie Smith 19 (16) 24. Joey Saldana 2 (12) K. Kinser took off from his pole position with Schatz in tow to start the 30 lapper. He was a master in lapped traffic through the halfway point, maintaining a 10 car advantage. On lap 18, Tatnell blew a right rear and took it to the work area, surrendering a top ten run. He changed a tire and a top wing and returned to surge to 11th. K. Kinser led Schatz, Lasoski, Stewart and Kemenah on the restart. Madsen and McCarl were slicing and dicing back in the pack, but it was the "Madman" who would continue his run. On lap 23, McCarl stopped high in turn four. The top five remained the same with K. Kinser having an open track ahead of him, but Madsen was coming and grabbed sixth. The final seven laps were uneventful up front, with K. Kinser winning his first Nationals. S. Kinser was perhaps the happiest man in the joint as the two will cash the winner's share of $140,000. Great charges were put on by Madsen and S. Kinser, but Pittman was the hard-charger on a racey track, moving up 13 spots. Tatnell won the best appearing car award, and his team was awarded as best appearing crew. |
